SomArt @ the Hive Walkthrough Overview

Thank you for attending the SomArt walkthrough for the Hive location. Please note the policies for the space are posted here: https://somartspace.org/space-specific-policies/

Basic rules include: No street shoes allowed on the dance floor or beyond the black tape, sweeping afterwards is mandatory (please allow 5 minutes of your time at the end of your time to do so), only dirt/dust is allowed in trashcan – no food, etc. All rules can be viewed in the policy link above.

Entering the Space

When your account is approved (after the walkthrough) you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder email for every booking you make. Those emails will contain the lockbox code to the space along with the address of the location.

Please use the lockbox code from the email to unlock the lockbox, take out the key, unlock the door, and promptly put the key back in the lockbox immediately. Do NOT take the key into the space with you – We try to avoid lockouts.  Please remember to scramble the lockbox code after doing so.

Please take off your shoes when entering the space. You may leave them in the entranceway on the left-side rug.

The Space

The Hive location is a 2,500 square foot space with a 43’x25′ sprung dance floor with percussive enabled marley, a green room, a sound system, showers, bathrooms (down the hall). It is a performance-enabled space.

The Bathrooms

Bathrooms are down the hall to your left as you exit the main space. Bathroom code is on the back of the door of the main space and is “1-3-5” -or- “top, middle, bottom”.

The Showers

(I know, right?!) The showers are lovely and we want to be sure they are kept that way. Please bring out what you take in including soaps, towels, and personal property. One shower is ADA accessible.

Furniture

You may use certain furniture that is in the space including: non-performance chairs and folding tables only. Please make sure you return the space to the way you found it including all chairs and tables. Please do NOT move performance tech tables, other artists props or set pieces, rehearsal sound system or table, ladder, cleaning tools except for the dust mop, dustpan brush and barrel.

Off Limits!

The following list are things in the space which are off limits to rehearsals and classes without prior permission and a 1:1 walkthrough for their use: performance chairs on the carts, performance sound system, performance lighting system, projector/server, temporary blinds on windows (they are fragile), the office, other artists props/sets, storing your props/sets without permission, the TV at the entrance.

Do not move anything in the space besides the chairs which are designated. Please also put those chairs back after use.

Heating/Cooling

When you walk into the space on the left wall before the dance floor is the thermostat. You may adjust the temperature if it gets too hot/cold, but please return it after you are finished. The system should return to default at designated times. Please only adjust using the + or – buttons. Do not touch any other buttons.

When It’s Time to Cadence

Please make sure you put everything back the way you found it when you entered the space. Shut all windows, return furniture, etc.

Then…

SWEEP!

Take the dustmop and in a zig zag pattern sweep the main space. Make a pile and give a good shake to the dustmop to release dust/dirt/hair. Use the dustpan and brush provided and throw away any dust/dirt/hair that is swept up into the barrel in the space. DO NOT sweep the dust/dirt/hair into the corner and leave it there. Make sure it makes it way into the barrel. Please carry out all other trash.

Trash

Please take all other trash with you. There are barrels both outside the elevator on the 1st floor and outside the main door.

QR code

Before you say your final goodbye to the space for the day/night, please use the QR code posted on the back of the door to officially “checkout” of the space. The QR code will lead to a form where there will be a checklist of all things described above, just to activate the non-creative side of your brain to make sure you leave the space in great condition for the next person.  The form also asks you to take a photo of the space and upload it to submit.

The Final Check

Make sure you have all your belongings, and please turn the lock-knob and pull the door closed as you leave. Check the handle to be sure it’s locked from the outside after the door latches.
