The SomArt Work-Study Program offers artists and community members the opportunity to contribute to the care, operations, and daily life of SomArt spaces in exchange for work-study credit that can be reinvested into artistic practice and participation.
SomArt operates across multiple locations, including three spaces at the Armory and one space at the Hive. This program supports the sustainability of our shared spaces while providing flexible, accessible pathways for engagement with the SomArt program.
We recognize that artists work with varied schedules, bodies, and resources. The Work-Study Program is designed to be adaptable, with roles that can shift based on availability, interest, and access needs.
Work-Study Roles
Participants may support SomArt in one or more of the following areas, depending on program needs and individual availability:

- Reporting maintenance issues, safety concerns, or anything out of the ordinary to SomArt staff
This role involves light to moderate physical activity such as standing, bending, and lifting cleaning supplies. No prior cleaning or facilities experience is required; training and supplies are provided.

- Light data entry or spreadsheet organization
- Preparing materials for programs or events
- Assisting with scheduling or documentation
- Supporting SomArt staff with short-term administrative projects
Administrative tasks may be completed on-site or, in some cases, remotely.
Schedule & Time Commitment
- Work-study sessions are generally scheduled in discrete blocks (for example, one session per week, with biweekly options available)
- Cleaning and administrative work typically occurs during off-peak hours, generally between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM and is managed independently by participants in the workstudy program
- Box office support is scheduled around events and programs
- Scheduling is coordinated in advance and designed to be flexible whenever possible
Compensation
- Participants earn $50 in SomArt work-study credit per 2 hour session (equivalent to $25/hour)
- Session frequency and role assignments are based on mutual availability and program needs
Use of Work-Study Credit
Earned work-study credit may be used for:
- Reservable spaces within the SomArt program (across all locations)
- SomArt-programmed classes, workshops, and activities
Credits are non-transferable and must be used within the SomArt program.
Access & Support
SomArt is committed to accessibility and transparency. We will work with accepted participants around scheduling, physical access, and other access needs whenever possible. Clear training, communication, and staff support are provided for all work-study roles.
