A dedicated container for Boston movers to be in improvisational dance, movement research, and experiments in composition. This class is for intermediate/advanced dancers. This class is for anyone with a dedicated dance/movement/embodiment/performance practice. This class is for artists and creatives of any/no medium, looking to expand their practices through embodied inquiry.

This class is an exploratory space with no ending. In class, we explore somatic, state, and task-based scores. We dance with the floor, with ourselves, the unseen, and with each other. We engage poetic language and visualization to navigate the multifaceted themes that emerge, recede, and reappear throughout the class. We study duration and repetition. We ask questions, and don’t worry too much about the answers. Like, what am I doing? We pretend. We alter perception, shape physical and emotional terrains, and reveal. We lean into undoing and unknowing. Each class will adapt to the flow of participants present, with the intention to hold space for longer-form improvisational and compositional scores. Here, we study and create individual, communal, and cultural dimensions of being together.

Please bring a notebook, writing/drawing utensils, and any other materials that will make you feel more comfortable during class. For example: layered clothing, knee pads, a water bottle, and a snack.

Throughout the series, guest facilitators and subs will be featured, along with live music.
cost:
$15-25 suggested
$10-50+ sliding scale

no one turned away for lack of funds (NOTAFLOF)

Those who can pay more help make the class accessible to others and support working artists (me!). Funds are used for studio rental, instructor pay, and live musicians.
