Solo to Contact Improvisation - Connecting with Self & Other

Everyone is welcome to join this class on Solo and Contact Improvisation, whether you are completely new to improvised movement and would like to try it out, or if you are a seasoned practitioner looking to practice more. This class will start with a focus on connecting to ourselves, our bodies, and the present moment, and then we will connect and communicate with each other through improvisational movement with guiding prompts and exercises. This practice offers an opportunity to break out of habitual ways of moving and thinking, and to counter the social isolation that many of us feel in an increasingly virtual world. This is an invitation to connect to new aspects of yourself, nurture mindfulness, and form meaningful relationships through embodied interactions within a supportive community. No experience is necessary – we hope you can join us!

What to wear:
Preferably loose, soft, comfortable clothing. A long sleeve warmer layer for warming up, and a short sleeve for once you’re warm, is recommended. Avoid hard things like belts or large jewelry.
Knee pads (optional, available to rent or buy during the class)

What to bring:
Yourself!
Optionally – water bottle, snacks, journal, pen

Students, seniors, unemployed persons, and working artists are offered a reduced rate. No-one will be turned away for lack of funds, so if cost is a barrier to attending please let us know.

To Register: Please RSVP by emailing [email protected]. RSVPing helps us plan, though walk-ins are still welcome.

Standard Rate: $20
Working Artist Rate: $15
