In our shadow workshops, kids will engage in a variety of creative activities centered around light and shadow and work both independently and in groups. They will experiment with different light sources, craft unique shadow puppets using simple materials, observe and analyze our own shadows, develop simple narratives and present their stories as shadow plays.

Katya Popova is a Boston-based artist, working at the intersection of painting, performance, and design. Katya received training in the fine arts in Moscow, Russia, before studying graphic design in the US. In addition to working as a graphic designer and illustrator, Katya has a background in physical theater and puppetry, often collaborating with sound artists. Her works explore what could have been by tracing the physical gestures and material qualities of everyday things.

In the past ten years, she has presented her work at numerous street festivals, shows and galleries, participated in artist residencies, and worked on projects with the Bread and Puppet Theater.

Katya is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA and received an MA at Boston University. Presently she teaches courses on Visual Art, Design, and Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music.

Isaac Dubow
Since starting to play classical violin at the age of 4 in New York City after school programs, music has always been at the forefront of Isaac’s life. While growing up in NYC, and frequently being taken to shows of all kinds, Isaac started to fall in love with jazz music and took up the trumpet while continuing to study violin throughout high school at the famous Laguardia High School of Performing arts. While in high school he performed regularly with self lead jazz bands, and was a member of several youth bands and orchestras including but not limited to Manhattan School of Music Precollege and Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra. By the time he got to the New England Conservatory to study Jazz trumpet, he had already worked with some of the most important names in the field such as; Adam O’farrill, Jason Palmer, John Mcneil, and Ingrid Jensen. After returning to school from COVID, his musical interests expanded and he started playing open improvisational music with Joe Morris and studying classical composition with Stratis Minikakis and Davide Ianni. Currently, Isaac is taking part in the Divertimento Ensemble’s summer residency, in Moncalvo Italy, as both a trumpet player and composer. Isaac makes music the focus of each day, meticulously studying his art form and looking to expand his sound as a composer and trumpet player. He has taught private lessons in NYC, and is ecstatic to start teaching at Note-Worthy Experiences and form a teaching studio in his new home of Boston.
