Embodied Contemporary Technique
Friday, September 4, 2026 - Friday, September 18, 2026, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
This contemporary technique class draws from modern and post-modern lineages (including Limon and ballet) while focusing on how you move, not just what you execute.
Class begins on the floor to build awareness of weight, support, and connection within the body. As we move into standing and traveling through space, we explore alignment, physiology, rhythm, and dynamic flow.
Improvisation and structured phrases are integrated throughout, offering space for curiosity, adaptability, and creative choice within a clear technical framework.
This class is for dancers who want their training to feel more alive, responsive, and embodied, while still engaging rigor and form.
This is a weekly contemporary practice held for artists ready to show up for themselves, take space, and engage without expectation—attendance is secondary to presence and integrity.
Callie Chapman is a dancer and choreographer based in Somerville. She has performed and toured with Prometheus Dance for over 20 years and has created original work through Zoé Dance since 2002. Her teaching centers on technique as a lived, sensing practice — integrating form, physiology, and improvisation to support artists in developing awareness, agency, and expressive depth in their movement.
Living technique. Embodied practice. Strength through awareness.
Please note that online registration for class closes 12 hours prior to the start of class. This creates reasonable expectations for both the student and the teacher. Walk-in registration is also available, however, a minimum online registration of at least 2 is required for class to run.
