SUMMARY:Modern Contemporary Technique
DESCRIPTION:Please note that online registration for class closes 12 hours
prior to the start of class. This creates reasonable expectations for both
the student and the teacher. Walk-in registration opens up again at 8am i
f minimum has been met. A minimum online registration of at least 2 is req
uired for class to run.\n\nModern Contemporary Technique class rooted in v
arious modern and evolutionary styles aimed to provide the balance of rigo
r\, challenge\, curiosity\, and creativity in a technique class geared for
professional-level dancers. Starting on the ground\, awaken connections w
ithin the body while starting to interact with the space around you. As we
come to standing we root into a solid base and arrive with attention to t
ensegrity and flow. Moving into spatial patterning within the room and oth
er who surround us we fine tune our sense of time\, ebbing and flowing wit
h dynamic shifts through space and with synchronicity. Each class has a si
milar structure to allow for curiosity to evolve and have a stable base. C
reatively\, we have space for some interpretation within defined parameter
s in order to challenge ourselves outside of our comfort zones. Class is 1
.5 hours with a half hour before class (starting at 10am) for class partic
ipants to prepare as they need.  Students can choose between being barefo
ot and socks\, although there may be times in class where we toggle betwee
n the two according to the exercises and phrases.\n\nCallie Chapman is a d
ancer\, choreographer\, and media artist based in Somerville. She has danc
ed with Prometheus Dance for over 20 years. With Prometheus Callie has bee

ocally\, nationally\, and internationally. She has worked with choreograph
 ers Diane Arvanites\, Tommy Neblett\, Korhan Basaran\, Riley Watts\, and o
thers. In her own work as a choreographer with Zoe Dance\, she has produce
d work in many types of spaces including proscenium stages\, outdoor festi
vals\, on the screen\, on the walls of buildings\, under scaffolding\, in
parks/public spaces\, and lobbies. Her curiosities lie in movement perform
ance as a designed and embodied practice...no matter what the viewing spac
e.\n\nZoé Dance has presented its work since 2002 in various venues and p
erformance opportunities around Boston and internationally such as: World
