Through a focus on cultural tropes of witches, Malefica explores the scapegoating of women and gender nonconforming people and the oppression of their bodies in contemporary culture.This work explores our casts’ ancestral ties to the Salem Witch Trials, Afro Caribbean-diasporic Spiritualism, and Eastern European/Slavic folktales through devised theatrical character studies and imaginative world-building.
