Taught by DeAnna Pellecchia of Kairos Dance
Class Description: Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary Technique with DeAnna Pellecchia focuses on spatial awareness, musicality, timing, dynamic nuances, performance skills and and concepts of stage presence inside of improvisational strategies and contemporary dance techniques/choreography. The first half of the class focuses on building strength and flexibility while understanding proper anatomical alignment and foundational techniques for floorwork and spiraling. Warm-up sequences integrate exercises from Yoga, Pilates, Ballet, Kinetic Awareness, Capoeria, Bartenieff Fundamentals, initiation work, release technique, LMA, and Listening Strategies. The second half of the class focuses on learning new movement vocabulary and building choreographic sequences, including across the floor phrases, inviting students to find a fuller use of space, nuance and strength. Students also learn phrase work from KAIROS Dance Theater’s athletic repertory which blends free-wheeling turns and leaps with sudden inversions, extreme suspended shapes, rhythmic isolations, quirky gestures, and intricate footwork.
