SUMMARY:Cunningham Technique for Intermediate to Advanced Dancers
DESCRIPTION:Please note that online registration for class closes 12 hours
before the start of class. This creates reasonable expectations for both t
he student and the teacher. Walk-in registration is also available\, howev
er\, a minimum online registration of at least 2 is required for the class
to run.\n\nThis will be Cunningham based modern technique class. I have s
tudied Cunningham technique since 1968\, was on the New York teaching facu
lty\, and took Merce’s Company Class from 1989 until the studio closed.
I think Cunningham has some of the benefits of ballet\, in terms of foot a
nd leg articulation and strength building\, but with a full use of the tor
so and grounded-ness that modern dance offers. It is as challenging for th
e mind as it is for the body\, especially with its rhythmic variety and mo
vement complexity. My classes emphasize rhythmic acuity as I feel rhythm i
s one of the most expressive aspects of dancing. I also incorporate indete
 rminancy\, that is\, choreographic choice making\, in the combinations\, a
s a learning tool and an outlet for creativity. The class is designed for
the intermediate to advanced dancer. Previous experience with the techniqu
 e is not required.\n\n$15 Regular Rate / $12 Professional Rate*\n\n* Profe
ssional means currently employed as a dancer or as an active choreographer
. Therefore\, not a student or someone who takes dance class for enjoyment
\, exercise\, or physical discipline while they work in another profession
